| Mexico was amazing. We had an awesome group of people. We all got along really well and had a lot of fun together. We sang continuously everyday, with Nick on his guitar and Andrew leading the vocals. I helped build a wall out of cinder blocks. We didn't really know what we were doing, but fortunately, David was an expert and helped us along. Brick laying requires a lot of patience and attention to detail. Lindsey Marler, Katie Crow, and I were a dream team, though. We did four church services throughout the trip. It was amazing to see how much the people were excited to have us, and to play around with the adorable little children who just wanted to love you. We also were fed delicious food, and lots of it, from people who had little. I helped lead Spanish worship with Audrey, Andrew, and Nick. I was also in a drama (with no words), in which I starred as the evil tree. I seduced Audrey with my shiny, red apple. Probably the highlight of my trip was climbing a mountain, going farther than any other tri-s group had gone. I even got to lead the way up for awhile, which felt amazing. I felt so energized climbing up, even as the air got thinner. Coming down sucked. It took forever, and cacti were everwhere waiting for you to slide into them so they could prick you. But it was worth it to be able to stand on a mountain almost 13,000 feet above sea level and look out on the landscape before me. It was breathtaking. Even the van ride to and fro, though long, was enjoyable because the people I was with were fun. We sang to Andrew's iPod most of the time, slept little, and laughed a lot. While the trip was so enjoyable, and I got to meet wonderful people like Chefe, Arturo, Jero, and Armando, I was really ready to be back to take hot showers, feel clean, and, most of all, see Adam. |
